View Full Version : 10v Audi 4000 motor.. interference?

Anyone know if the 10v 5 cylinder in an Audi 4k is an interference motor? Think the belt may have just jumped. Tried to start it and it fired up for a second, kinda back fire through the intake, and died. Sounds funny when it turns over now. I'm thinking the water pump was frozen and caused it to jump. Cam still turns so it's connected. To damn cold to mess with it today.

2.2 or 2.3? IIRC 2.3 has 10:1 CR and is an interference engine. The likelihood of bending valves is very slim, but it is possible. A 2.2l is not an interference engine.

It's a 2.2 I'm pretty sure. Thanks.

Pulled a plug yesterday to check for spark and it had spark. The first cylinder only has about 50 pounds of compression though. That's no good. :(

leakdown test is the next step. I cant remember if the 2.2 has mechanical lifters. If so, it could just need a valve adjustment.

Timing belt jumped about 3 teeth. Torn into it yesterday and before getting too far we loosened the belt, lined it up, and put it back on. Car fired right up like nothing ever happened. Obviously still going to put the new one on. :P

Not sure if we got the belt too tight or what but it sounds like it's supercharged. We had the correct amount of twist in the belt per the book. If it continues we will have to loosen it up a tad i guess.

And now this morning it decided to try and be a Subaru or at least sound like one. Not sure why it's missing so bad. It feels like it's getting 3-4 out of 5 cylinders firing. I need to check the ignition components. Hoping a spark plug wire came lose but I'm sure it won't be that easy.
