My front suspension (drive side i think) is making a strange rubbing/clanking sound and it's starting to bother me. I can feel it in the peddles when i go over a quick bump. Any ideas?

Do you have the shims in for your brake pads? My wife's car makes a weird clanking sound and that is what I narrowed it down to... sure enough the shims were missing.

The shims were put in. It sound more like it's coming from the driver side coil over.

Well, theres not much to the suspension... Strut bearings are in good shape? Ball joints? Tie-rod end? How low are you? Could your axle be hitting? Are your CVs in good shape? Perches are tightened down? Springs aren't binding? What coilovers are you running?

does it only happen on braking? hard braking, or just any braking regardless?

braking dosent play into it, i dont think it has anything to do with the breaks. it seems to be gettign worse, sounds more like the coil when you go over a harsh bump, soft bumps dont effect it. I can't really work on the car at my house right now, no level ground that isnt soft ground... ill have to try at work or something.

well.. first thing's first: pop the hood and check the strut at the top to make sure everything is secure and installed correctly. Kick the wheel at the top to see if it moves, etc. (if it does.. eh, get it fixed :P)

does it do it in a straight line? turning? is it a clunk, tick, click, bang, clank, boom, or other description of the noise?

It dose it both straight and turning. More of a clank/clunk.

take the top strut nut off and check the nut underneath for tightness.

Uhh yeah. dude. BOTH those strut mounts are very far beyond their service life. Its also possible that they have led to damage of the spring perches. Get new strut mount kits (VR6) ASAP before you put a strut through the hood.

Why VR6? I ordered these from work but haven't bought them yet.

the vr6 mounts are just better... it's just one of those nice upgrades that the mk3 got that are still compatible with the mk2. (no, I don't remember specifics :P)

Solved, and all you had to do was open the hood! That's a simple diagnosis.

Wasn't like the picture when I made the post, I was driving over some massive pot holes the night before the pictures were taken.

ok heres the deal...the very top most nut will not budge. I just spin the strut.. on both sides.

Use airtools.

that would be a problem right now, the supra is torn apart in the garage and the wifes honda is dead in the driveway...only place too work on it in in the dirt parking in the alley or at work(both with no air)

Take it to a shop near you and ask them if they can loosen them for you. then go home and finish the job.

it's not as strong as it should be, I wonder how bilsetin's warranty program is....

bilstein typically has lifetime warranties on their shocks, I thought..
