I am removing some of the "cold weather kit" from my truck because I don't need it and i'd like to simplify things. IE: less stuff to break.

So on the drivers side of the engine there are 2 plugs I need to put in. One is in the head and the other is in the block.

My question is.... Do I need to put anything like a sealant or anything else on the threads or just thread in the plug and torque it to specs?

The one in the head.
#266 and #269.... do they need anything or just the seal ring? (http://www.expedition-imports.com/category/unimog_404_parts.engine.cylinder_head/)

The one in the block.
#11 in the picture and it goes under the 2nd piston cylinder from the left. (http://www.expedition-imports.com/category/unimog_404_parts.engine.engine_housing/)

Thanks in advance!

in the first pic, it appears that #266 is a crush washer and it is used to seal #269. So no sealant required. 266 is the sealer ;)

in the second pic, it appears that it is probably a tapered plug and if so, I would recommend pipe thread paste (not tape) to seal it.

Awesome thank you!

I forgot to mention earlier but they both go into the water jacket.
I will look closer at the threads on the lower one to see.
Right now its in a little MB parts baggy.

I just figured it would be a good idea to take out probably 20-30 feet of useless pipes and a couple sections of radiator hose.
Less things to go wrong on the trail the better!

Have you looked into finding plugs for that ducatipaso?

you can tie the 2 locations together on the M42 engine. apparently the only way to properly plug it is with the block out of the car.

Wow that looks a lot harder than what I have to do!
I didn't read the whole thread but where the outlet comes out of the block could you pop that nipple out and put a freeze plug there?
A buddy of mine did that on one of his bracket racing cars and it did the trick!

Sorry to thread jack, but I am looking for some euro lights for my LP1419. Any idea where to get them? I found one on ebay.de for the right side but I would like a pair.. for obvious reasons..

thanks for looking man. new would be sweet, but if the price is high, then used would be fine. I need complete assemblies though..
