I just bought a 1985 Volvo 240 Turbo and I'm pretty sure this bastard is what is making it run incorrectly. What is this thing and can I remove it?

Might help if you give us some idea of where it was located. :P

sorry, the larger vacuum hose goes from the CIS intake tube ( non-pressure side ), the smaller vacuum hose goes to the intake manifold behind the TB. Im thinking its a 1 way valve that is missing the top but I could be wrong...

and change or clean it at every oil change!

and no you can't remove it.

EDIT: A b21t has a flame trap, but its the only turbo motor that does...

thanks for the advice, ordered a bunch of parts from IPD today and cleaned a bunch of parts because I don't like getting dirty when working on cars.

Good to replace the flame trap...it's a problem area on the B2X cars when they clog.

Thats why you have to have a good one ;) Also, likely a Dutch translation..

*laughs* Dutch for sure. In any case it's the most overlooked Volvo maintenance piece...kind of like the $3 PCV valve on tons of domestic cars...
