I am looking at getting some spot / fog lamps. A lot of them are 6 volt. Is there anyway to get them to work with a 12 volt system? I did a google search, but they were just talking about 6 volt to 12 volt conversions.

you could find a 6-volt to 12-volt transformer...

if you only want them to work for a second or two. fog lamps should have replaceable bulbs. what lamps are you looking at?

Where are you finding 6v lights? Would it be possible to find a 12v replacement light that could be used in the housing?

I found this...

As an example:

They are probably 12 volt though.

I just want to know my options in case I end up with a couple 6 volt lights. I am going to be doing a lamp bar on front of the Mini. I would like to find 2 yellow / amber fogs and 2 spot lamps on the cheap. I am also thinking of running another large fog under the bumper. Lamp bar lights would be in the be in the 5.75" range. If I go with the under bumper fog, it would be in the be in the 6"+ range.

you can take those apart and change the bulbs to 12v. not 100% on that, but I am 99%. I just looked at one of those style lights that I have here and the yellow portion is a sealed beam. GE4415a is the pn for the 12v bulb. However, mine is 4.25"

no prob. if you want to get serious, you could use cessna taxi lights for the clear lights. 13v 250W. They are generally 5.25". Might need to work on the alternator/generator first though...

You laugh. I have them on one of my sciroccos. They are awesome.

Hmm, would you just need a uprated alternator and then relay them? Curious how you have them setup.

Both. I have each light relayed and a 90A alternator. Never had a problem. It was not possible to outdrive them. I think the longest period I had them illuminated was 45 minutes going to leavenworth.

Secondary and definitely not ideal idea is to wire the lamps in series. I would go with sourcing 12v lamps.
