Movies (& TV) - discussion, and what did you watch today?

PLEAD DO NOT MENTION DOWNLOADING MOVIES. I'm well aware that a lot of people on the Internet illegally acquire copyrighted material all the time, and that it's largely socially acceptable. But let's not talk about it publicly here. Just mention the movie you saw and talk about it.. no need to discuss how you got the movie.



I watch movies all the time.. and I know a lot of other people do as well. I like to toss in a quick line or two of what I think about the movies I see, or at least mention what I saw. This thread is for that sort of discussion.

What movie have you seen today? What'd you think? Do you agree with others?

tonight I watched Twilight Eclipse. It's roughly 2 hours long.. the first 1.5 hours or so is mostly a continuation of the love-story-that-makes-little-sense and teenage angst with very little plot development most of the time. The last half hour has some action and better plot advancement.

I've watched all of these so far.. I still don't understand why these two kids love each other so much. They've been okay movies though, imo.

will probably watch Salt next..

I watched The Men Who Stare at Goats last night, was slightly disappointing. It just wasn't as entertaining as I was expecting, they used all the really good clips from the movie in the trailers.

Just saw The Green Zone with Matt Damon. It was ok... With the actors and subject matter, it could/should have been really good.

I want to see IP Man and have been putting it off the time to watch it. Has anyone seen it?

Selena and I were both totally underwhelmed with this movie as well. It REALLY had an opportunity to be a great movie but came up totally short.

No movies for me lately but I started watching X-Files again beginning with season 1. Streaming with Netflix kicks ass.

Watched the Expendables on Sunday. Awesome movie!

Just watched Undead Or Alive. A western zombie comedy with Chris Kattan. Yeah. Could have been better, but zombie titties might be FTW? :D

I completely agree. It wasn't bad... just wasn't that entertaining. I lost most of my interest not too far into the movie.

just watched Salt. The whole movie I was wondering why it didn't do very well in theatres.. now I know. The ending sucked!

It's not a bad thriller really. The government bits are pretty unrealistic, the first 15 minutes are pretty boring, and the plot and character twists aren't too difficult to figure out. But, it's really pretty good. The ending though.. wtf? The climax just ended.. things appear to be maybe 20 minutes from an ending, and then it just ends. It's a 1.5 hour movie that should be 1:45 or even closer to 2 hours. I don't get it...

Bourne Identity is how you end a movie like this but leave room for a sequel. 'Salt' is the wrong way to end this sort of movie.

Just watched Saints and Soldiers, Can't believe it was made for under $1 million, great movie.

just watched "My Last 5 Girlfriends".. a British 'comedy'. It wasn't very funny, but wasn't bad either. I enjoyed its unconventional way of telling the story if anything...

In theaters i have recently watched Inception and Scot Pilgrim. Both were great for what they were.
Right now, I am watching season 1 of Dexter.

I hadn't heard of Scott Pilgrim at all until I started seeing mentions of it on twitter... still no idea what it is though

haven't heard of the first... but I wasn't very impressed with Alice in Wonderland. It wasn't bad.. but wasn't very good either, imo.

Just finished watching the first four season's of Dexter. It's one the best show's I have watched in a long time!

Yeah, on season 2 of Dexter now. I think i'll save 3 and 4 for my TDY to Maryland...

Yup. finally got around to watching them.

Watched Crazy On The Outside earlier, and watching Lesbian Vampire Killers right now. Kind of a Shaun Of The Dead but with vampires. Pretty good so far. I'm convinced that every single female cast member is some kind of model, they are all drop dead gorgeous.

OMG! "bummed by a gay werewolf". :D

So many great lines in this one.

just want to reiterate that discussing illegal activities is disallowed on this forum.. that includes downloading movies. You can talk about a movie all you want.. just don't mention obtaining it illegally ;)

this movie was weird. It was completely awesome in some ways, if you're at all a nerd/geek. But I couldn't help but think about how crazy the actors must have thought they were while making this movie, because so much of it was just... crazy. The story didn't really flow very well since it was always broken up with weird action sequences and odd characters. But I still enjoyed it.

oh.. and this girl is honestly very hot, though she wasn't meant to look good in the movie I don't think..

glad you enjoyed it. It's one of those movies that I feel iffy about recommending. I feel that most people will find some way to enjoy it, but at the same time I feel that they may be let down by it.

about to watch The Expendables... watching it expecting to not be much more than a bunch of action movie actors blowing things up.. should be good :D

was a pretty good action/blow-em-up movie imo...
they let story get in the way of action a little too much I think, but the action was good. It's the sort of movie where the 'good guys' never really get hurt, always hit their target, and end up happy. Story just gets in the way :P

Watched the new Alice in Wonderland. Visually, awesome. Everything else, not so much. I would say it was entertaining to watch but it was weird and I didn't like the story. Selena and I think Tim Burton tried to hard to make it a Tim Burton movie.

I agree... it had some good bits, but overall it just wasn't that great.

just finished Robin Hood.. the Russell Crowe version.

it's sort of a pre-outlaw story.. ending with "and so the legend begins". That doesn't mean it's not full of action though. It flows pretty well... the main character makes enough sense, imo, .. etc. What didn't make much sense to me was his 'merry men'/friends/co-fighters.. whatever they're called. They follow him around and fight with him, but you never really see them or find out what they are doing and why... why they're following him. They're just sort of persistent people you see throughout the film that are not major characters. As for Russell Crowe though.. he does a pretty good William Wallace impression :P

Oh, and some how they made Cate Blanchett not very pretty. I don't know why.. she can be much more elegant looking than they did here.

Good movie overall... not sure why it didn't seem to do so well in theatres. Maybe it was just bad timing.

and seriously... when did movies start having such long credits? I remember when the LOTR extended movies had 10+ minutes and people thought that was insane.. but at least they were scrolling through every name of the Tolkien Club, or something like that. This movie has 8 minutes of credits... eight minutes.. without listing any names in any Robin Hood club :P

saw Prince of Persia tonight.
It's pretty good.. very watchable.. nothing very wrong with it. But it's not one I'll be taking home, I don't think. There's just nothing.. special.. about it. The acting is just okay, and it's pretty 'out there' as a story, by nature. It's entertaining none-the-less.

The Le Parkour style action tossed in by the main character was kind of odd.. seemed completely out of place. That.. and "Prince of Persia" was a white guy, along with most of the rest of the main cast. WTF is up with that?

We watched Clash of the Titans a couple nights ago and it was entertaining. Nothing really stands out, I think it kind of lost a lot of the "epic journey" feel of the original. Visuals were good, acting wasn't bad. Its definitely worth renting, it's not a movie I NEED to add to my collection.

We watched "Kalifornia" lastnight. David Duchovny and Brad Pitt in their hay day. It was a very dark movie, we really liked it. Brad Pitt played his role great, you really hate his character, which is the idea... I'd really recommend seeing it. I might buy this one to have it... (even though it was streaming free on Netflix.)

I started watching Clash of the Titans a while ago.. got bored.. fell asleep.. and never finished it

started to watch "Letters to Juliet" and stopped it about 15 minutes in. No thanks..

Watched RepoMen tonight enjoyed it. Some great scenes of them cutting repoed body parts out. The repomen all drive beefed up Touareg's. Ending is a little odd though. But I have that proplem with about 90% of movies lately.

I watched Robocop this morning...

Sitting in the theatre (yes.. alone) waiting to see The American

so.. The American is a rather ironically named film considering how un-American the movie style is. It's incredibly European-like. The trailer did a horrible job of preparing you for what to expect from the movie, so I imagine a lot of people walk out rather disappointed. It's a good film though.. very well put together with a lot of genuine suspense and a lot is said with very little actual dialogue. I can't say that it's one of my favorite films in recent times, but I definitely have a lot of respect for what it is and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys honestly good movies that aren't afraid to ditch the typical current American style of in-your-face movies.

Just got back from seeing Resident Evil: Afterlife. What an exciting movie with a great soundtrack. Saw it in 2D since I feel that 3D is a gimmick that tries to make up for a movie that fails on some point(s).

Oh yeah, watching Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure right now.

definitely agree on the 3d comment for most movies. :thumbdown:

Picked up Pulp Fiction for 5 bucks the other day. Hadn't seen it in a couple years . Also Netflix on Demand is great for finding old movies you don't see many other places

A Perfect Getaway. Not great, but decently entertaining.
