Thread: My Bimmer Bumbling

    My Bimmer Bumbling

I picked up a very clean example of an early E28 from a guy on Mercer Island. He's an older BMW enthusiast with a small stable of well kept cars. The car has a few problems, but the po provided all replacement parts for things needing replacement. The car is a 5 speed, with H&R springs, Bilstein sports, ST sway bars, and a 3.25 LSD.

    Now for some photos:

And, for the first time, I'm considering getting air suspension.

How many cars have you gone through in the last couple of years now? I am coming up on 10 years with one car, 17 with the other!

    Boosh!

Don't mind me living vicariously through you!

So did you sell both of your E21's?

    Great looking E28 Adam!

Many, I have to snap a pic of this E24 coupe in my neighborhood that is absolutely incredible and pristine. White with a small duck tail spoiler.

In the last 4 years I've only had 3 cars that were dd'ers.

The wiper was on when I got the car. All but the first photo were taken by the po.

Only the 320i has been sold so far. But, the other one is on the block.

Since you're so good at finding these old BMW's...find me an E12 please. E24's are nice, but also seem to be a dime a dozen around here.

The most modern I'd go would be an E34. All of these with 5 speeds of course!

E12's come up here and there. Almost never in good condition though. What about a Bavaria?

A pre-'73 Bavaria would be great too. But I have yet to see one that didn't have an automatic.

When you drop in the LS, you'll be able to pick a new tranny.

Why don't you "drop an LS" into all of your BMW's?

There's an LS swapped E30 rolling around these parts. Nothing obvious on the outside to indicate so, except the sound, and a "357" badge on the back.

yeah.. there are more and more LS swapped older BMW's around. There was a black e30 at the last BMWCCA meet I attended.

Most people would consider an LS swapped BMW sacrilege.

LS swapped Datsun 240Z on the other hand...

It's understandable. The M30 is a great engine, good power, great reliability. But, pound to power, you'd get more from a small block and have easier to source, cheaper power parts.

    To a degree.

LSes aren't as cheap as they used to be. A buddy of mine went down to Seattle to "look" at one. Went down w/ a trailer hooked to his M3, ready to trailer it home. $3k for a motor that was essentially in pieces..... Motor looked all together at first glance...but then we noticed the head bolts had been pulled. Best part was, the guy didn't know why. And he refused to budge on the price. Needless to say, we went home with an empty trailer that night. And then there is the cost of conversion parts..... But if you're looking for outright power, yeah, tough to beat for the money. Just not the $500-1000 conversions everyone likes talking them to be.

Whew, that sounds like very over-priced crap pile. $3k? Eeek. The whole swap should be less than that.

So, here's the car's first modification:

It has. It's a 5 footer. Which for bronzit, is a 9 out of 10. This color normally didn't age well and faded badly.
