My dad was going to just junk this bike, so I'll be restoring it soon. From what I gather I think it's a old Schwinn Super Letour, although it has a 10 speed instead of a 12 (kind of confused by this).

All it really needs is a new chain, new tubes, also I think the rubber on the tires is rotted. Should be sweet once it's done!

Well apparently panasonic made some bikes that were "approved by schwinn", although those were 10 speeds. The Super Letour was made by Schwinn although it changed a lot per year. I couldn't see my dad buying upgraded cranks, brakes, and moving where the gears shift. When he never rode it much.

picked up a microfiber drying towel from Griot's today. It was on sale.. so that helped, but it was still ~$20. But wow... I love it. I washed my car immediately afterward and used it to dry my car. The towel barely felt damp and the car was completely dry.. was able to dry the car quickly as well, with no water spots. Definitely worth the money, considering a drying blade usually costs anywhere from $15 - $25 on its own.

take a pic of the bottom of the crank/kickstand area, I'll tell you if it's a schwinn or not
a friend of mine had a panasonic back in the day that had the freewheel in the crank so you could shift gears while coasting
