My "New" car! (and it isn't a VW)

I just picked this up from a friend here a week ago, and i already have big plans for it. It's a 1991 BMW 318is Diamond Schwartz and while I love it, I can't drive it due to my friend selling off the M42 motor. This isn't a problem because I'm shoehorning in a M30 (3.5L I6) from a 1988 735iL and mating a 635CSi 5 speed to the motor. Things are building up and I'm getting really excited for this.

It already had its motor pulled so there is a few items missing in it:

    like pieces of the interior

    and the obvious:

it was in an accident before my friend bought it, so he only paid $1000 for it. Here is the damage at the time of the sale:

and here's what it's like now after I had the body shop simply pull the dent out:

The car all its records, everything was either kept in good shape or repaired. it also had flawless Sport Seats (which my friend put into his 318is, my car's twin) well as a few other things. I'm buying this off of my friend for $500 and we will be (hopefully) finishing the M30 swap by the end of September.

So far, my focus is simply getting the motor in the car. I'll be getting wheels and suspension after the swap.

I've been working on the motor lately with Jordan (FireStorm005) and here is the progress we've made.

I have more photos on my camera to upload. These came off of my phone.

Okay. It's been quite some time since I updated this, but we have been making slow and steady progress. I was finally able to offload my photos from my camera and here is more progress.

Checking to make sure that the new flywheel will mate up right:

    The "Before and Dirty" pictures:

A sign that the engine was well maintained:

    Intake Manifold's off:

The head and timing cover is off:

New timing chain guide and tensioner:

Jordan took the parts to work and gave them a run in the parts washer:

    Same with the head:

After the parts bath and actively making sure that the head dried properly, it was time to put everything back together.

    New head gasket:

The head, Yes this job is something to smile about:

Installing and tightening the head bolts:

The top and bottom timing covers look so nice right now:

We also gave the block a good cleaning too:

The oil pan with gasket replaced:

Here's all the big stuff back on:

However, the valve cover and intake manifold were looking their age and I wanted something to help dress up the engine bay after the install, sssooooo..... time for powder coating:

    Before:

    After:

    .

Checking the fitment of the intake brace:

I had to use a power steering pump from a '88 535i because the 735iL had hydraulic leveling suspension, and thus would not work with my swap:

I will leave you off with this last photo for tonight. As you can see, the engine has come a long way from the start and I shall be posting more photos here soon:

    clean parts

that intake manifold looks soooo much better in black than it does in silver. I was looking at all of the 3.5L engines at XXX yesterday just wishing they looked better.

we'll have a couple of M30 swapped cars here soon
