    and now... Hamburg

this city has more canals & bridges than Venice. It's more Venice than Venice. It's an awesome mix of old & new. I loved it. I met up with someone I knew through finalgear and we walked from the Hauptbahnhof (main station) down to the waterfront where you can see the port as well. We stopped in Hamburg's apparently pretty well known "red light district" as well (where hookers are literally standing in groups on street corners approaching you asking if you're interested, in German). This was also the first time I had seen homeless people/beggars in Germany. After checking everything out we rode back on the train to the Hauptbahnhof again.

this was my last big stop before heading back to Frankfurt, so this was my 2nd-to-last night in Germany.

the main train station in Hamburg.. multiple levels of trains with two large shopping levels as well. You could find almost anything here.. pretty cool.

    outside the station

you can see a date on the back-right building.. 1888. That's considered new in Germany..

the first night on my own in Germany was spent at a hostel in Kassel.. a 1600s town north of Frankfurt. I guess I didn't really know what I was doing.. because now that I look back at all of the cool stuff in that town I wish I'd spent a whole day there.

When I was leaving I remember seeing this huge rock wall in my rearview mirror. I'd been regretting not turning around ever since. Tonight I decided to try and find the road I was on and then backtrack to figure out what it was that I saw. I found it..

It's an old vineyard turned bunker, as far as I can tell:
Look at all of the photos linked from google maps:

Then I started looking around more.. and found this:

This Herkules monument is in a large park.. looked around further in the park and found this:

    I need to go back..
