    NW Fishing thread

When, where, what bait, method used, etc.

    I'll start

    Today (7/11/10)

    Trillium Lake (near Mt. Hood)

    Casting from shore.

Using Powerbait green, and Powerbait Rainbow 'Marshmallows', also tried some salmon eggs.

Caught nothing. Tried letting it float up from the bottom on ~2' of leader, tried the eggs on a bobber with 3.5' of leader, tried a 2' leader under the bobber. A guy next to us was using purple Powerbait, and floating off the bottom, they had 3 keepers in about 2 hours. Guy on a raft caught 3 in about 15 minutes though. Seems the best way to fish Trillium is from a boat, will take the canoe next time.

By that tunnel that goes under the road. We had a great time.

    The PNW Fishing Thread

Had some luck down in Fort Stevens Oregon this past week.
Only had a few hours but made the most of them.
Was using just a Mack's double whammy wedding ring loaded with powerbait.
They seemed to strike really hard with my pink lure and red, white and blue bait.

Took a 13" rainbow from Lake Myron Yakima Washington a few weeks ago.
Funny enough, I was fishing on my lunch break that day.
My size 12 nike next to it for comparison. Small phone pic.
This was caught with a home (single hook and barbless) made orange and neon green wedding ring

Using a Mack's wedding ring again along with pink rainbow Gulp brand powerbait proved to be what works yet again.
They have both the small egg shaped and dough type bait, i prefer the dough.
Had better luck this time 'round with a green and yellow or silver lure.
These 10-12" Rainbow were caught in Clear Lake Washington.
I love the different colored patterns and speckles on the bottom fish of the cutting board.
    These made for great eaters.

Got to sneak away for a quick trip for only an hour and managed to still bring one home. Not huge, but it'll do at 11"
Used my green and orange Mack's wedding ring again.
Bait was just pink dough powerbait.
    Caught at Clear Lake Washington

If you have the time head over to Rufus Woods lake in Eastern Washington. They have hatcheries there that they had an issue with and had to release 90,000 fish into the lake. My parents have been going over there quite a bit this year and catch HUGE trout. My dads arm got sore with his flyrod. They would literally catch a 5+ pounder every cast. It's insane.

Believe I have been wanting to!
Story is someone snagged the nets fishing to closely to the hatchery fish and a ton of them got out.
I think right now they are still allowing people to take two a day home, if they are legal and from the sounds of it that is not an issue.
A friend showed my this picture....Good lord

those are hatch. triploid rainbows. can't say i have caught a hatch. fish that large, as they are few and far between in my little lake i frequent.
    maybe next year
my next trip i have planned is for Steelhead. can't wait!

We've made a couple trips up to Rufus Woods and have caught some pretty big triploids. They're moving down river now though, a friend of mine had pretty good luck around Bridgeport, and they upped the limit to 4.

Going to try out some new tackle early sunday morning out at the Yakima and Columbia confluence in Richland.
It's a long shot, but I don't have a boat to my disposal so im trying my luck from the shore.
Sort of fishing one handed right now (don't ask) so things may get interesting if i even do catch anything, lol.
I'll come back with a full report on Monday, and if im lucky, a pic or two.
Good luck out there this weekend, all.

I need to get my buddy on this thread!
He drives all over for his boss delivering cars from here to there and he makes stops every couple hours and drops his line in the water.
He has at least 15 different states fishing licenses and always lights up a big cigar on his breaks!.......hehe
